The Boone County Emergency Management Commission is made up of mayors from each incorporated city in Boone County or their designee, a Board of Supervisor representative and the Sheriff or his designee. This list of members and their responsibilities are directed by Iowa Code 29C.

Their responsibility is to oversee the operations of the Emergency Management Office; this includes planning, training and exercise. They also approve policies, budgets and the everyday work that is done by the office.

The commission meets at least quarterly and helps give direction to the coordinator.

The current commission members are:
